Caregiver-Mediated Early Years Services

Early Years Services teach families therapeutic strategies to support their young child’s development at home.

Families and caregivers will learn therapeutic strategies and techniques from professionals based on their child’s individual needs. The focus will be on building parents’ and caregivers’ capacity to support their child’s skill development in social interaction, play, communication, emotional development, adaptive development and self-help skills.

Through Caregiver-Mediated Early Years Services, families and caregivers will learn therapeutic strategies and techniques from professionals. The focus will be on building caregivers’ capacity to support their child’s skill development in social interaction, play, communication, emotional development, adaptive development and self-help skills.

Registration & Eligibility

Children and youth ages 12 to 48 months who are registered in the Ontario Autism Program will receive invitations to register for Caregiver-Mediated Early Years Services from Access OAP.

If your child is receiving core clinical services or has an active behaviour plan, you’re not eligible.

Pivotal Response Treatment (PRT)

Suited for: Children 1 to 4 years

Pivotal response treatment (PRT) is an evidence-based intervention program that uses applied behaviour analysis (ABA) principles. PRT uses your young child’s motivation to teach communication and social engagement. You will learn the core strategies of the program so that you can use them in day-to-day routines and interactions with your child.

The program is highly individualized and can target many skills, including eye contact, requesting, turn taking, play skills, and how to gain your child’s attention using a range of strategies.

Schedule

This program includes 12 individual coaching sessions delivered over 12 weeks, plus additional booster sessions. Both caregiver and child must be present at all workshops and sessions.

Project ImPACT

Suited for: Children 1 to 4 years

Project ImPACT (Improving Parents as Communication Teachers) is a program that will help you and your child increase social communication, imitation and play skills throughout daily routines and activities.

Highly qualified clinicians will coach you as the expert on your child. Together, you and the clinician will develop priority goals and activities to support your child’s learning throughout the day.

Project ImPACT uses a combination of developmental and applied behaviour analysis (ABA) strategies to increase social communication skills.

Schedule

This program includes 6 caregiver workshops and 6 individual coaching sessions delivered either 6 or 12 weeks, plus additional booster sessions. Both caregiver and child must be present at all workshops and sessions.

Social ABCs

Suited for: Children 12 to 42 months

The Social ABCs is a program that empowers you to support your child’s social communication skills development.

In this program, you will learn and practice a combination of developmental and behavioural principles and focus on improving your toddler’s use of vocalizations to communicate and share positive emotions with others. You will work with a trained coach to learn the intervention strategies in your child’s natural environment, using play-based activities and daily routines that your child finds the most motivating.

This program includes 6 caregiver workshops and 9 individual coaching sessions delivered over 6 weeks, plus additional booster sessions. Both caregiver and child must be present at all workshops and sessions.
